You cannot install Lync Server 2010 in an environment that has a FTP site in IIS

Symptoms

Assume that you install the FTP role service on a computer and create a FTP site. You try to deploy Microsoft Lync Server 2010 on the computer. In this situation, the setup process fails. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException was unhandled
  Message="The object identifier does not represent a valid object. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800710D8)"

  ErrorCode=-2147020584

Cause

 This issue occurs because the Lync Server 2010 setup process does not expect FTP site in the Internet Information Services (IIS).

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following cumulative update:
